You found an interesting document in PDF format and would like to convert it to Chinese language for a friend. You may use Google Translate (or Yahoo Babel Fish)to assist you. Nevertheless, Google Translator does not support direct translation of PDF file. The following method can be adopted.

Step 1 : Copy the PDF Url (i.e. http://people.opera.com/howcome/2005/ala/sample.pdf)

Step 2 : Open Zoho Viewer, paste the link in to the URL box and Click "View" button. Once the conversion is done, you will able to view the PDF format in Zoho Viewer.

Step 3 : Click the "Embed" shortcut and Copy the URL (i.e. http://viewer.zoho.com/docs/xxxxx)

Step 4 : Paste the URL into Google Translator URL box. Choose the language as you wish and Click translate. Now you will be able to view the content of the PDF in the language as you wish.

You may convert to PDF format using HTM2PDF.

Recently i received a file in Microsoft Document Imaging (MDI) format with a pretty large file size (~3 MB). One of the problem associate with MDI format file is not many software can open MDI formatted file. Secondly the file size is big and wanna to reduce it to smaller size. Of course zipping it one of the best way. Nevertheless, the earlier problem still exist. Third, i would like to sent it to client in PDF form as there is no (or not much) issue to open a PDF formatted file. FREE PDF reader is available for download by Adobe Acrobat.

Nevertheless, direct conversion/printing from MDI to PDF would lead to conversion error. See below image. One of the way without paying anything is to save the MDI formatted file to TIFF format and subsequently print in PDF format. Well this works fine...


Apart, whenever the file in TIFF format, it can be read and edited by many other Online tools such of Picnik, Photoshop, etc.

Conversion from website to PDF is not new service but some other service has serious display issue (format changed significantly after it has been converted to PDF) for those poor organized and formated website. HTM2PDF has lesser problem.

Just type in a web page URL or paste in HTML and press Convert to PDF. HTM2PDF does not disclose the storage period of the PDF file, however it maintain at least one month storage of any converted file in All conversions page.

TIPS

Many company has their dedicated server for daily operation, file storage, database, email, etc. With server, every staff in the company would be given individual company email address. Normally management would limit file transfer via email to certain size e.g 10M. Anything more than that the server would park it temporary in the server and only sent it out during non-office. Rapidshare, one of the German owned popular file hosting site may be banned from operation IF the German court found that RapidShare is liable to copyrighted files uploaded to their server. Read the article "It’s Fair To Say That Germans Will Soon Have Zero Access To Online File Sharing Sites" from Techcrunch.

FILE WILL NOT ACCESSIBLE IN RAPIDSHARE IF...
If this is true scenario, then German court may request RapidShare to temporary stop operation for auditing. You or your group may not be able to access files park in RapisShare server.

FILE SHIFTING ACTIVITIES IF...
For those who are sharing files in RapidShare with group, you may need to take quick action to shift the file to some other server or at least duplicating a copy.

FIND OTHER FILE HOSTING SERVER IF...
There are other file hosting server elsewhere. Example are MIHD, MEGAUPLOAD, MEDIA FIRE, etc...

DUPLICATE FILE IF...
Those who share file in FREE File Hosting server is liable to lost their files in a second. Those consider to duplicate uploading your file in other file hosting server as backup. Many "smart" players are practicing this treat.

"CYBER TRAFFIC JAM"
Due to shifting activities results extremely high traffic to particular file hosting server, may be some file hosting server may not cope with this major shift and further leads to other File Hosting server temporary shutdown.

Is RapdiShare one of your "favourite" and you don't have any premium account with RapidShare ? Rapid Hacker is one of the good software by xyrox for you.

As we know, RapidShare is a globally well known and reliable FREE file hosting website but with download time limitation. First first time download, you may only have 2 minutes limitation, subsequent download may upto few hours...NOW, with Rapid Hacker, you may download files from RapidShare with NO time limit...COOL...

If the Rapid Hacker can be make online like other website without software installation...that will be great !

Why not give it a trial ? Let me know your experience ? If you know any other similar website or software, i would be love to hear about it...

MediaFire is a FREE file and image hosting web site. Similar to other file hosting website such Docstoc. There are number of features which i like the most :
  • Registration is completely optional and you may choose to create an account for easy management.
  • Unlimited number of file (limited to 100 MB per file) and disk space (as of now). Virtually no limitation.
  • Unlimited bandwidth and download
  • No WAITING (like RapidShare)
  • No daily download limits
  • No download speed limits
  • Allow Multiple simultaneous downloads
Other features would be quite similar to other file hosting website.

If you are hosting of files in other website (like RapidShare, MIHD, etc), i don't see why you to try MediaFire.

One fine day you received a compressed file from a friend and you fail to open with unzip software that you readily built in window, you may consider to unzip your compressed file with WOBZIP. Wobzip supported number of zip formats e.g. DEB, LZH, SPLIT, etc and believe site owner is continue developing new format. Photos and Images sharing within a private group in most file sharing service provider, the photos and images may be viewed by public. Many private would reluctantly to post their photos in the public file sharing server.

LockImage is a new project in password protecting your photos and images. LockImage is available FREE for web users. LockImage basically create an executable file containing a single image and a password is protecting the file for common viewing. This would be very useful tool to many web user.

However, there are some issue related to the executable file :
  • Sending email with executable file is extremely dangerous. There is still a possibility some IT geek hijack your file and replace it with new executable file.
  • Many server (company) will quarantine email with executable file attached in it. This increases the probability of email quarantine and lead to mis-communication.
  • This can be another opportunity and increases frequency for virus spreading.
  • Many file sharing service provider (if not all) would resist uploading of executable file. This may seriously impact the effectiveness of implementation of this project.
  • Presently it is only capable of locking single file. Locking images would be time consuming.
I believe LockImage's owner can read this post and take necessary upgrading on LockImageas the intention and usage of this tool is great.

Nowadays, there are many file sharing sites in the market and most (if not all) are offering FREE uploading & packing service. Examples are RapidShare, MegaUpload, etc. These sites are supported by advertisement, premium accounts, etc. These sites are basically operated in the same way until i found docstoc.

docstoc is a user generated community where you can find and share professional documents. Compare to other File Sharing Site, docstoc has the following special features and extras :
